SWAM Solo Strings by Audio Modeling - expressive physical modeling
We at CatSynth are excited to present SWAM Strings from Audio Modeling, a library of expressive string instruments (violin, viola, cello, and double bass) meticulously created using physical modeling techniques. Starting with the cello, we explore most of the performance parameters, show how to automate them with a MIDI controller, and explore a few of the sub-models of the instrument. We then go on to look at the violin, double bass, and viola, again demonstrating the expressive performance possibilities.
This is the first of several videos on Audio Modeling's SWAM physical modeling instruments. In future videos we will explore the woodwinds, brass, and string sections.

We review "Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention: Whisky a Go Go, 1968", new 3 CD release of the legendary performance by Frank Zappa and the original Mothers of Invention line-up at the Whiskey a Go Go in Los Angeles. The recordings feature some wild improvisation pieces, along with the Mothers' dirty soulful R&B renditions, and the collection includes photos, notes from vaultmeister Joe Trav...

The finale of this year's Wonder Valley Experimental Music Festival featured "Diaspora Focii / Feral Luggage", a trio bringing together Eli Pontecorvo on bass, Mark Pino on drums, and guest Amanda Chaudhary on keyboards, synthesizers and other electronics. The performance was free improvisation. It starts of softly and builds up gradually to an intense energy before finally switching back to a ...

The Most Dangerous Road in California: CA 49 Merced River Valley
Просмотров 21721 день назад
We drive a short stretch of California Highway 49, the "Golden Chain Highway", as it descends into a deep valley cut by the Merced River (and partially submerged by the eastern end of Lake McClure). The section of road features numerous tight switchbacks before crossing a bridge over the river. This crossing is near the former community of Bagby, which was submerged when Lake McClure was formed...

Great review! 🥸
Thank you! 😺

¿Por qué?
I am sure that "scratch" would be well-used by CAT Synth TV. The pizza's could use a bit more slap, especially the basses. Some of the high harmonics on the basses make pretty good flutes. It's a shame that the electric violin did not come with a good wah. You could really rock out Sea Train's 13 QUESTIONS from '70
Thank you! And yes, that's a great idea with electric violin. I have plenty of Wah and dynamic filter effects here, so I can try it out 😺
@@CatSynthTV The best time for such things is when absolutley NOBODY has a chance to bother you, especially Earthmen; deep in the darkest hour of a very heavy week
I would like to see a split version: simple cards with just the EEPROM, and a loading module. The EEPROM is like 5€, so you could built cartridges for 10€ each, and have a bunch of them. Another benefit is that you can 3D print a case that is close to the original shape.
The GTO’s must’ve cleared the stage as soon as Frank pulled out Octandre !!
😹
@@CatSynthTV I hope they release a quality full concert from 69 with guitarist Lowell George !
💙
Rest in peace, Jim.
Another stellar Zappa review at CatSynth TV! and wow, the day after release! You guys are ON IT! Thanks again for the awareness! So glad you are diggin' it. 🤘
Thank you so much for watching, and your support! And of course for giving us all these great releases 😺🎶
The only ones I got on CD are Freak Out, Hot Rats, and Apostrophe. This show seems to be between the 1st 2, right before Hot Rats, which is an excellent time for him.
Metallica has a similar divide like black Sabbath. There's the first four albums and then there's everything else. A lot of people born in the 70s who were between 12 and 16 when the black album came out divide Metallica by the first 5 albums instead of the first four.
Nice videos! I wish Arturia would provide CV inputs on their effects for this and the other modular devices they have. Something I can do on a Neutron no prob. I use DAW M4L or Bitwig modulation anyway, but it would be cool to have it in the vst too.
Oh, cool idea. I wonder if there is something like this for the RY30 <google> Oh, there is! Sector101 Waveblade. A bit expensive, but hey, maybe some day.
Catchy underrated, but that’s only because the first 6 albums were heavy. But it’s still a very good hooky riffing album.
He definitely developed his own unique voice on his instrument.
Really helpful to someone like me who is new to the subject.
Thank you! Glad you found our tutorial helpful 😺
I love cats so much, hello cute babies😺♥️
The cats say "meow" back 😻😻
Two gorgeous cats. 😺❤️
Slick tutorial. Fist bump from me to you ❤ I'm off to check out part 2. You are much appreciated. What's your thoughts on this, 2 years later? I'm using the mkii. I wanted something hardware that existed within the same discussion as serum. It's my fav machine ever tbh.
Thank you 😻. It's still a great little synth. A bit overwhelming at times - one has to remember that you don't have to use all the features at once when creating new sounds...
I know I gave you too much grief over the music, but I'd love it if you could do an updated version since the Centennial Corridor Project through Bakersfield was completed, it's now possible to shave nearly an hour from I-5 onto Highway 58 through downtown Bakersfield to meet up with the eastern part of highway 58 traveling over the Tehachapi Mountains! Honestly, I'm more of a Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits kind of person. Many of their songs had the beat necessary for taking you mind off driving a great distance.
I definitely want to do a "Highway 58 Part 0" video covering the completed Centennial Corridor! I attempted to film this in April when I was down that way, but unfortunately the weather did not cooperate. Next time...
@@CatSynthTV Well, at least an attempt was made.
@@user-iu8lf6tj9w I will most certainly try again!
I thought it was not very good and until 5 they were just making noise after that especially the Holdsworth years they were a force in Progg
Well, suppose not every album is going to appeal to everyone, and that's fine 😺 Thanks for watching!
Oooh thank you . Imma Lumpy Gravy man myself but I love the Synclavier II and who better at the keys than ma mans Zapppppa
Listening now, yeah, that group went deep. Thanks for the tip Jason.
CA has added many extra features - why, for heaven‘s sake, no separate sustain parameter? This is the only drawback on this otherwise excellent synth.
Thanks, will check the 0-modem bit. I found that hooking up serial when using battery power can make the machine freeze until you pull the batteries. I don't use the terminal on Mac, but the built in serial tool of the Arduino IDE, or Processing, with the later you can actually program something around the serial communication, like a file transfer tool.
Why Haskell
Why not? 😸
"I don't even know a chord from a rope you put around your neck" might be her best sentence ever spoken. This is a well done interview. You clearly brought the best out of her because she appreciated your thoughtful questions.
Thanks! We really enjoyed doing that interview 😺
I love it. I have no idea how it works. Yet. I’ve spent 10 mins on it, then got busy on another project. It’s not nearly as hands on, and thus as satisfying to play, as the REAL Minibrutes (all 3 others; the MicroBrute, Minibrute, & MiniBrute 2. I just happen to have all 3).
Wow, cool that you have all three of the hardware "Minibrutes" (We just have the MiniBrute 2 here, but I love it)
Great demo - very informative, thanks!!
You're quite welcome 😺
this is so amazing i never thought i'd get to hear an interview/podcast with ALAURA!! her album Sacred Dreams is so euphoric especially the song, "Solistice", means so much to me. thank you so much for sharing your talents with us, Ms. O`Dell.
Very nice video here. How long does it actually take from Bakersfield to Tehachapi? Uh, your music is very interesting to say the least. It's like 70s Acid Jazz which was not my era. But like driving on catnip I guess!! LOL.
Thank you! Definitely a 70s acid/fusion vibe to the music. And time-wise, it's about 45 minutes from Bakersfield to Tehachapi on 58 😺
Dang, sorry I missed tha live! Congrats! 🎉🎊🍾 Love tha chill and jazzy vibes! 😎✌🏽
Thanks! No worries about missing the live - glad you got a chance to listen to the album 😺
It’s Lisa!
Good video
Thanks 😺
Fantastic. Thank you!
You're very welcome! 😺🛣️
NOW I get it! Thank you!!
You’re quite welcome! Glad it helped you to understand better 😺🎛️
All of the albums with Ozzy are good ..Dio on was ok but after Ozzy that was it for the best classic sabbath
Brst of luck for the success of this project. Jordan ftw!
This really is the ancestor of the modern synth. Okay, the filter was a bit weird (2 x formant filters, no LPF). But it did have envelopes, maybe primitive ones but hey this was 1939! I don't particularly like the sound of the instrument (its cheesier than a fondue party in my opinion) but i respect it and it's place in electronic music.
Totally agree that it is one of the ancestors of modern synths. I'm actually quite fond of the sound - very distinctive, and good for specific situations 😺
I loved "Dirty Women" and "All Moving Parts Stand Still" from this album. I really loved Sabotage, especially "Megalomania"
Never Say Die is also underappreciated.
Absolutely.
Happy Pride Month!
I'm glad you feel as I do about the Lambda W function being a pain in the behind.
I read that its only "universal" to functions that have locally quadratic humps.
can't wait for these to become affordable
Wow interesting interview premise! Amazing project idea. They’re actually equally interested in the idea and you can feel it! Cool seeing the ladies “interview” each other and really get into the conversation. Thanks for hosting this Catsynth! Digging in now. Especially like the discourse on how they integrated early internet concepts and culture. 🛜 Gets us giddy!!
Thank you so much! And glad you enjoyed so many aspects of it 😻
日本では、"Computer Highway '83"と言うタイトルで発売されました。
Does the trial version of this plugin have a time limit?😊
Yes. I believe it’s 30 minutes but not sure. The Arturia website should have that info.
damn that filter all the way up on the vst version sounds dookie
I would expect no less 😺
Wow it sure has changed since the 90s
Indeed it has. I first drove it in 1998 before the the freeway sections were completed, and then several times before the Kramer Junction bypass was finally completed in 2020. I like it better now 😺
